Proficiency Gains

Measured but positive results

Students across the Learning Community are making modest gains in basic reading and math proficiency, but many students struggle. Compare 4th and 11th grade test results below.

Six Years of Reading Gains

The latest testing data shows significant progress with 81 percent of 4th grade students proficient in reading. After six years of significant gains, there is still plenty of room for improvement.

Studies show if students are not proficient readers by 4th grade, they rarely catch up to their peers.

Only Small Improvements in Grade 11

You won't see significant reading improvements for 11th graders over the same six-year period. More than one-third of 11th graders are not proficient in reading. They face a future without the basic skills needed for career training or college.
